The NY State Fair



If you're planning on going to the NY State Fair and you'd like a free round trip ride and ticket, then make sure you seek your RA out!

On Saturday August 30, there will be free buses running back and forth from College Place every half hour from 10 am - 7 pm, complimentary to all Syracuse University students. But if you sign up with your RA by Thursday night at 10 PM, then you can get you a complimentary ticket to go with your friends from your floor as well!

Sunday Floor Meeting and Bird Library Tours



This Sunday, 8/24 will commence the first Sunday floor meeting of the semester. Whether you are a first-year student or a senior, make sure you make it to your floor meeting. See below for times and locations:


Haven
8 PM in your floor's lounge (except floors 1, 2 and 3, which will meet corporately on floor 3)



Walnut

2nd floor - First floor lounge at 9 PM
3rd and 4th floors - Basement lounge at 9 PM



Washington Arms

All floors in the first floor lounge at 9 PM

Whether you've just arrived or you've been here a few days, make sure to check out these must-see event Friday and Saturday:


Friday 8/22
- THE Chancellor's Convocation at 1030 AM in the Carrier Dome.
A long-held Syracuse University tradition, you don't want to miss this!

- Lunch on the Turf of the Carrier Dome will follow Convocation at 1145 AM. Ever wonder what it's like to dine on a Division I football field? Now's your chance.

- School and College Convocations will follow from 1 - 530 PM. Make sure to check pages 32 - 42 of the Syracuse Welcome 2008 Book for specifics.

- After dinner, join up with your fellow classmates at Get Real...Speak Up starring All-American quaterback Don McPherson at 630 PM in the Carrier Dome. This session focus on your role in making this campus a safer environment for you and those around you.

- Orange Blast! from 830 PM - midnight in the Schine and on the Quad will cap off the night with carnival festivities, massages, performances, and many many more.


Saturday 8/23
- Academic Advising and Schedule Adjustment will be available from 830 AM - 5 PM. Make sure to check your individual school on
pages 32 - 42 of the Syracuse Welcome 2008 Book.

- If you need an ID Card, head to the Carrier Dome Gate E between 930 AM - 1230 PM or 130 PM - 430 PM.

- Don't miss Feel the Pulse of Syracuse! Meet at the Schine Student Center to depart for Downtown Syracuse at 530 PM to get a Taste of Central New York, enjoy live music, and reap plenty of free giveaways.

Wednesday and Thursday Events!



After move-in is over, students can make their way to one of several events on Wednesday and Thursday:


Wednesday 8/20
- Hendricks Chapel will have an open
house from 1 - 4 PM. Later they will host an Ice Cream Party from 7 - 9 PM; come out for ice cream, fun and games.

- College Life 101 from 8 - 9 PM in the Goldstein Auditorium in the Schine Student Center will feature a live comedian reflecting on the college life.

- The night will culminate with the Slice is Right Game Show in the Gifford Auditorium in the Hunnington Beard Crouse Hall (aka HBC) at 930 PM. If you like winning or walking away with prizes, then this is for you.


Thursday 8/21
- There will be a Climbing Wall on the Quad from 10 AM - 2 PM. Climb to new heights.

- The Office of Multicultural Affairs located in Rm 105 of the Schine Student Center will have an open house from 12 - 130 PM.

- Hendricks Chapel will have an open house from 1 - 4 PM.

-
SU Abroad will have an open house from 1 - 230 in their office near the intersection of Walnut and Harrison.

- All students should make all efforts to be at the extremely important First Haven Floor Meetings that will begin at 630 PM in the lounge of each floor (except floors 1 and 2, which will meet on floor 3). Please be prompt!

- At 845 PM, make sure to head over with your RA, floormates and your SU pride to the one-and-only Home to the Dome in the famed Carrier Dome at 9 PM.

- From 10 PM - 1 AM, Late Night at the Gym will endure for those looking to play games or work out.

- Also stretching from 10 PM - 1 AM is Free Ice Skating and Skate Rentals at Tennity Ice Skating on South Campus. Ride the bus from the College Place Stop (between Sims and Slocum Hall on College Place).

- And lastly, from 11 PM - 1 AM, the Haven RA staff will host the Haven Dance Party in the Haven Main Lounge. Come get your groove on and/or come to hang out.

Wednesday and Thursday Move-In Reminders



The time has finally come for the year to begin!

Here's a few reminders regarding first-year student move-in into Haven on Wednesday and Thursday:

- Full assisted move-in for first-year students at Haven commences at 9 AM and goes until 5 PM both Wednesday and Thursday. Make sure to come during the time that your move-in pass denotes (don't forget to bring your pass!) and look for people to assist and direct you.

- Make sure to take advantage of the free breakfast (730 - 10 AM) and lunch (11 AM - 3 PM) at all of the dining halls around campus.

- Health Services will be available at their offices at 111 Waverly Ave from 830 AM - 5 PM

- Check out the Taking Care of Business Hospitality Tent on the Quad from 11 AM - 5 PM on Wed. and 9 AM - 5 PM on Thurs. for a chance to get to talk to various campus offices face-to-face.
